Ex-Dale star goes to court over dad’s death

...In 2006 a coroner ruled his death was the result of industrial injuries.

The Hilditch family are claiming damages between ÂŁ50,000 and ÂŁ100,000 from the company, now called Marconi Mobile Systems.

The dead man's 47-year-old son, of Riverstone Bridge, Littleborough, played 242 games for Rochdale in his two spells at Spotland, scoring 47 goals.

He is now a prison officer at Buckley Hall and a coach at Oldham Athletic’s youth academy.

He said: "More and more people are becoming aware of the dangers of asbestos, but "We did not really have any objective at first, but if the family of any other Osram staff who died in similar circumstances realise what has happened maybe they can follow the same path.

"I don’t really feel angry, but when I look back at how quickly he went I feel like there were some years of his life that have been taken away.

"There was a lot of time we would have liked to have spent with him that has been lost." Paul Glanville of John Pickerings Solicitors in Halifax is representing Mr Hilditch.

He said: "We feel we have a very strong case.

The writ has been served and now we are waiting for a timetable of events, but expect it to go to trial in May or June."
