He's documented hundreds of cases solely from the former Holmes Foundry plant.

Between 1999 and 2006, the OHCOW clinic recorded and diagnosed nearly 600 cases of asbestos-related cancer or asbestosis in workers.

Of the OHCOW registrants diagnosed with asbestos-related disease, 33 per cent come from construction trades, 30 per cent are former Holmes Foundry workers, 25 per cent are petrochemical workers, eight per cent are classified as "other" and four per cent are former Fiberglas plant workers.

"We're trying to get this message across to the labour movement," Brophy said.

John Millholland, of CEP Local 848, said a lot of trade workers still believe occupational disease won't happen to them.
