To mark International Workers' Memorial Day, they gathered at the Peace Gardens near the town hall to remember the thousands who die each year because of job-related incidents and disease.

Shoes worn by tragic workers were placed at the foot of the city's Messenger of Peace sculpture, while wreaths of purple and white flowers were laid and the names of those recently killed - including murdered detective Stephen Oake - were read out.
